Frequently Asked Questions

Foresight Intensive Treatment Services: IOP and PHP

What’s the difference between the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

IOP is a part-time program that meets virtually or in-person, and allows you the flexibility to continue work, school, or other daily life commitments. PHP is a full-time, in-person day program that offers more structure and support.

How long do these programs last?

The average program lasts 4 to 6 weeks, but this can vary based on program design and individual needs. Foresight’s standard IOP runs for 6 weeks; our standard PHP runs for 2 weeks.

Are these inpatient, residential programs?

No. These are daytime programs. You will return home after each daily session.

Can I keep seeing my outside therapist or psychiatrist?

Yes. You will see our IOP and PHP therapists and psychiatry providers while enrolled in the program. We’ll coordinate care with your existing providers before, during, and after the program as needed.

Does Foresight accept insurance?

Yes; Foresight is in-network with many insurance plans. Our team will help you check coverage and discuss any out-of-pocket costs.

What if I’m not sure I’m ready?

Our team will provide a consultation to help you decide if this is the right level of care. You don’t have to commit before exploring your options.

Where are your programs located?

We currently offer a virtual IOP program in California for eligible clients and in-person IOP and PHP programs in our Berkeley and Folsom locations.

What about my job and taking time off from work?

If you’re considering taking time off from work while in a program, we recommend speaking with your HR department first to learn about available benefits, such as short-term disability or medical leave. Our team can support you by providing necessary documentation or medical clearance, if you’re eligible for leave. We’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible, so you can focus on your care.

Are Foresight’s IOP and PHP accredited? What does that mean?

Yes; Foresight’s IOP and PHP are accredited by The Joint Commission (JCAHO). This accreditation reflects our commitment to meeting the highest standards of safety, quality, and care in behavioral health. It also means we follow rigorous guidelines to ensure clients receive evidence-based, patient-centered treatment in a supportive and structured environment.

What can I expect on my first day in the program?

What happens after treatment?

Care doesn’t end when you graduate from treatment. For those needing ongoing support, Foresight offers seamless, continuous care through our outpatient therapy and psychiatry services. This integrated approach allows us to tailor care to each person’s unique journey. We focus on preparing our clients to return to life and treatment outside of our intensive programs by:

  • Continuity of Care: If you work with a provider outside of Foresight, our team will work with them to schedule your follow-up appointments. If you do not have a provider, our team will set you up with Foresight therapy and psychiatry providers as needed.
  • Connecting You with Support: We’ll connect you with local resources and networks so you have access to a community of support as you move forward.
